"Jesus claims to provide an adequate respose to human dastardliness - that sneaky wickedness that is corporate and individual, conscious and unconscious, seen and unseen. There is something alluring about the word dastardly. I use the word dastardly instead of the much simpler word sin. I do this because the word sin has little resonance in a secular society, but the failure to recognise sin does not mean that it has no impact. As we puzzle how to pivot, to turn ourselves around and turn the issue... around we are confronted by sin - dastardliness, our own, other peoples and the dastardliness that runs adeep and furtively through our world. Jesus provides a path through this dastardliness. For those who are Christians this way through is secured through Jesus' death and resurrection, but Christians and non Christains alike will be interested in how, by showing us how to live, Jesus also provides a path through dastardliness." - Ann Morisy

Old celtic prayer
Thanks be to thee for the gifts thou givest me
each day each night on land and sea
Each weather fair, wild or calm
For thine eye to keep from harm
For each hour , its ebb its flow
For thine arm around me so
for each gift thanks be to thee
The best gift is thyself to me.
Amen.

Niebuhr
“Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime; therefore we must be saved by hope. Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore we must be saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we must be saved by love. No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as it is from our standpoint. Therefore we must be saved by the final form of love which is forgiveness.”
- Reinhold Niebuhr (June 21, 1892 - June 01, 1971)

This amused me!
Little Johnny was in church with his mum for the service when he felt he was about to throw up. "Mum, I think I'm going to throw up!" She told him, "I want you to run outside as fast as you can. Run across the lawn and go behind the bushes. You can throw up behind the bushes and nobody will see you." So Little Johnny sped for the door. Less than a minute later, he returned to his seat. He had the look of obvious relief on his face. "Did you make it all the way to the bushes, Johnny?"
"I didn't have to go that far. Just as I got to the front door, I found a box that had a sign on it: FOR THE SICK."
